MAX VON SYDOW – UGLY BOYS UGLY GIRLS
For the past three decades, Max Von Sydow has been locked away in isolation, struggling to survive in his ramshackle home-studio, near the Stockholm suburb of Bagarmossen. His usual daily routine upto now has consisted of copious amounts of kåldolme (a Swedish cabbage roll), and hours upon hours of listening to obscure proto-synth 45′s from the early eighties.
His obsession with the likes of Mats Olofsson- and the collecting of vintage synthesizers- resulted in the recording of around nine hundred experimental tracks, which up till now have never been heard outside of his own apartment.
On Midsommar 2013, an intern from Stockholm’s INGRID found a cassette tape in a forest on the archipelago island of Sandhamn, whilst celebrating the Swedish traditional holiday with some friends. The tape was only marked with “M.V.S. – 1987“. Curiosity lead to the intern taking the tape home, to discover one side consisting of a poorly recorded monologue to an apparent ex-lover, and one side; the track now known as “Ugly Girls/Ugly Boys”.
After almost exactly a full year of pain-staking research from the INGRID team, we are proud to announce that by using certain information in the recorded ramblings, we have managed to track down Max Von Sydow- and began to re-record some of the most essential tracks in his vast but unheard back catalogue.
